I started building this for my own nostalgic fun as a virtual model railroading hobby.
The goal is to recreate the subdivision and surrounding countryside as I knew it
growing up there in the 1970's. My father worked on this subdivision for 43 years,
so through his “reports about his day” each evening at dinner, a few rides in trains
and his hi-
Although this route is not yet complete, being a beta route doesn't mean it does not work. The purpose of a beta route in Railworks is to give everyone a glimpse into what it will someday be and to gather feedback on the current progress. For the player, just enjoy the drive for now and don't look too closely at what is missing (or floating in the sky). While compatibility and performance are always a consideration in building a route, that was not my priority in building the C&O Alleghany. As a "model railroad" this project is as much about the scenery as it is about the trains. Slower or older computers might not run this route well particularly around highly detailed areas. The download is large but it is the best way to distribute this extensively scenic package and ensure it works for everyone.

The other main focus of this update is to establish a stable product base upon which scenario writers can begin to ply their skills. If no problems are found I look forward to declaring the track and infrastructure from Alleghany to Alderson to be complete, with no future changes (scenery is not complete, however).
In this version, tremendous time and effort went into creating a signal/speed control design that is prototypical and can be driven without constantly using the RW screen displays. I believe that driving with a windshield clear of display panels lends an extra degree of realism to the train driving simulation experience.
